Whitley County's Seat Since 1839
Whitley County was created in 1835, and the settlement first called Columbia was chosen as its county seat in 1839, renamed Columbia City in 1854. The county has been through three courthouses on the same site -- the first built in 1841, a second around 1850, and the current Beaux Arts building, designed by architect Brentwood S. Tolan, completed in 1888-1890.
