From Phelps Station to Woodburn
Joseph Edgerton and Joseph Smith platted Woodburn in 1865 as a stop on the Wabash Railroad, originally naming it Phelps Station before renaming it Woodburn that same year for the enormous wood burnings used to clear the land. It was the first town incorporated in Maumee Township, and briefly went by 'Shirley City' starting in 1895 before reverting to Woodburn in 1956.
